FOODcamp in Højer

FOODcamp Højer is situated in the small city of Højer near the Southern border of Denmark. Here, a historical marsh farm named Højergaard makes up the physical setting of FOODcamp Højer, surrounded by beautiful nature and just a few minutes from the sea.

Following a comprehensive renovation of the listed buildings, FOODcamp Højer welcomed the first classes in January 2020.

Historical settings full of soul

Højergaard is a culture-rich site filled with memories of past days. From the many unique examples of local building styles and traditions to tiny details in colours and materials, the renovation has emphasised preserving the original soul of the buildings.

FOODcamp Højer consists of two main buildings with spacious living rooms and cozy bedrooms for the pupils to relax, play games and have fun with their friends. And then there is the large double kitchen where the many inspiring food experiences of FOODcamp take place.

A local touch

Classes visiting FOODcamp Højer will have the opportunity to explore the nearby surroundings and experience the local culture and nature. For instance, they can visit the old town mill to grind their own flour, go shrimp fishing at Rømø Beach, join a nature guide to explore the nearby nature and learn about local animal and plant life, and much more.

The cooperation behind FOODcamp Højer

Højergaard is owned by Realdania By & Byg, who have also been in charge of renovating the historical buildings in cooperation with Tønder Municipality. Whenever Højergaard is not running FOODcamp, it is used to host various food and meal-related activities for the local community by Tønder Municipality.
