Children, Youth and Food Report

Children's perspectives

At Arla Fonden, we aim to generate knowledge about children’s and young people’s relationship with food, cooking, and food literacy. We also believe that children’s own thoughts, experiences, and perspectives should help shape the conversations adults have about food literacy.

That is why we publish our annual Children, Youth and Food report. Each year, we invite children aged 10–15 to share their experiences, attitudes, and perspectives on food, cooking, and everyday food habits.

The report provides valuable insights for educators, organisations, researchers, and decision-makers. By bringing children’s perspectives into the conversation, it inspires new thinking and helps strengthen the work to support children and young people’s relationship with food and cooking.

Target Audience

The report is relevant for educators, researchers, organisations, policymakers, and international partners working to strengthen children’s and young people’s relationship with food and cooking.

Methodology

Children, Youth and Food is published by Arla Fonden in collaboration with the research agency Silverlining Research which supports the design, data collection, and analysis of the study.

The report is based on a quantitative survey of children aged 10–15. Participants are recruited through Arla Fonden’s partner schools and Norstat’s online panel. In addition, a smaller sample of parents of participating children complete a separate survey through Norstat’s online panel.

The report is developed with academic guidance from Jacob Højgaard Christensen, Associate Professor at the Danish School of Education (DPU), Aarhus University.

"In my professional opinion, the Children, Youth and Food report provides new, insightful, and thought-provoking findings based on a well-designed study, while recognising the methodological limitations inherent in this type of research."
