Madlejr® – Food Camp is a Danish school camp built around food, cooking, and food literacy. Guided by Arla Fonden’s Food Guides, students learn, connect, and build community through hands-on food experiences. They prepare and share their own meals while experimenting, cooking, presenting, and enjoying food together.
Every year, 78 Danish school classes spend 4–5 immersive days at the Food Camp, exploring food, cooking, and food literacy together.
Our focus
We work with food, health, wellbeing, and sustainability through food literacy and hands-on learning experiences. By using food and cooking as tools for learning, we strengthen collaboration, community, and confidence. We want every child to leave with new knowledge, practical food skills, and the courage to explore food with curiosity.
Since 2014
Madlejr® – Food Camp has helped strengthen food literacy among children and young people in Denmark.
Where?
The Danish school camp takes place at Madlejr® Helnæs, located on the small peninsula of Helnæs in the south-western part of Funen, Denmark
— surrounded by nature, close to the sea, and with plenty of space for cooking, learning, and community.
“In my opinion, every school should visit Madlejr®. The students remember the experience for the rest of their lives.”
